Lab Late: Building A Rube Goldberg Machine

7th November 2018, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

You’re invited to… explore, invent and tinker at Lab Late: Building A Rube Goldberg Machine

Are you interested in encouraging children’s interest in engineering? Want to get hands on and build your own Rube Goldberg Machine?

At our next Lab Late, join us and Kids Invent Stuff to get inspired by engineering and get tips and ideas about how to bring the subject to life at school and at home.

We’ll start the event with a short introduction to Rube Goldberg Machines – remember the OK Go music video for This Too Shall Pass? It was one giant Rube Goldberg machine:

Once you’re familiar with the idea – we’ll begin building a collaborative Rube Goldberg Machine.

Designed to perform a simple task, a Rube Goldberg machine uses lots of moving parts that work together to complete the machine’s intended action. Often, these machines consist of a series of simple devices that are linked together to produce a domino effect, in which each device triggers the next one, and the original goal is achieved only after many steps. You can your own section of a Rube Goldberg Machine using your ingenuity and imagination, then work together in groups to join the sections and create one giant chain reaction.

Lab Late will be a fun, relaxed and hands-on evening of inspiration and a chance to play and explore together with other attendees. You will come away from the event with ideas to run engineering-inspired activities at home for the family or in the classroom and the confidence to have fun with it!

The evening is inspired by the latest Kids Invent Stuff challenge.
