Flagship Imagination Lab Open House
The Institute of Imagination is delighted to announce the opening of our Flagship Imagination Lab at the Workshop on London’s Albert Embankment.
The Institute of Imagination is creating a world-class cultural destination in the capital that will put children, and their imaginations, at its heart – the Institute of Imagination campus. It will be one of a kind – a hybrid between a museum, gallery, community centre, science centre, studio and laboratory. A space where children and their families can let their imaginations run free.
On our journey to developing this vision, we have already engaged with 10,000 children through our outreach programmes and are now opening our Imagination Lab based in London Fire Brigade’s disused engine warehouse in Lambeth, known as The Workshop.
Imagination Lab is an innovative space that enables participants to explore new ideas, invent new products and build new skills for the future. We will be launching a full programme from January 2017, working with the local community, families and schools across London.
Ahead of the launch we are opening the doors of Imagination Lab as part of the Make:Shift:Do (28 and 29 October) a national festival of making organised by the Crafts Council. This open house will be free of charge and is an opportunity for children and families to tell us how they would like our new Lab to develop. Free tickets are available here.
Gareth Binns, Chief Executive, Institute of Imagination said:
“We are delighted to announce the opening of our Flagship Imagination Lab, a unique and immersive space for children and their families that brings together the arts and sciences to develop cutting edge programmes that examine, research and build new thinking. Activities will focus on themes including robotics, neuroscience, fixing, theatrics, making, augmentation, computer coding and crafting. Underpinning all of our activity is the nurturing of children’s imagination.”
Imagination Lab forms a key step in our ambitious strategy to understand the power of imagination and realise its potential. It will enable us to build on what we have learnt to date, to scale up delivery and reach more children, families and schools across the capital, and support us on our journey to realising the Institute of Imagination campus.
