About the Institute of Imagination (iOi)
The Institute of Imagination (iOi) is a children’s education charity, researching, designing and delivering creative and innovative learning experiences across STEAM. The iOi supports young people from underserved communities to break down barriers, empower their voices, and give them equal access to transformative opportunities and core competencies to ensure that every child has the skills and aspiration to imagine and achieve their fullest potential. The organisation also supports teachers through its CPD programme ImagineEd.
“The pace of technological revolution has been increasing exponentially in recent years, and the effect this is having on the parity of education our young people receive is already palpable. Many young people are being left behind by this digital transformation. Nominet’s 2022 Digital Youth Index found that a quarter of young people do not have access to a laptop; according to Ofcom, three per cent of homes with children still do not have access to the internet. In the face of such structural challenges, educators are faced with difficult questions as to how they can support their students to develop vitally important digital skills. However, some steps can be taken to ensure all students can access an enriching, forward-facing education, whilst empowering teaching staff to be digital leaders in their own rights.”
