Lab Life: Tinkering with Motors (Home Ed)

The Institute of Imagination will be celebrating creative application, design, innovation and invention using hobby motors.

In our Imagination Lab we are inviting home educated children and their parents/carers to come and create their own moving jitterbugs, bottle speed cars and bubble machines, through an exploration of the possibilities of working with motors. Children will play with design, art and engineering to make and create their own gadgets.

What to expect at Lab Life: Tinkering with Motors (Home Ed)

At the beginning of the session, there will be an introduction to the activities, explaining what each activity is and why we’re doing it. During this session we’ll be making and exploring motors and movement to create different projects. We will have prompts and challenges to get you exploring the possibilities, using self-directed learning. There will be facilitators on hand to get you started on the projects and provide help along the way, and then it’s over to you to work together to complete the projects and experiment.

At these Lab Life sessions there’ll be the opportunity to try these activities:

When is Lab Life: Tinkering with Motors (Home Ed)

There are two sessions, 10.30am – 1pm and 2-4.30pm on Tuesday 26 June. This is not a drop in session and we advise that you arrive at the start time for a briefing on the activities.

Who is Lab Life: Tinkering with Motors (Home Ed) for and how much does it cost?

These sessions are designed for Home Ed students and their parents, carers or teachers. There are two ticket tiers for this session for children, either £9 or £6.

£9 ticket: At the start of the session all children will receive a battery pack, batteries and a motor. A £9 ticket means you can take these away with you at the end of the session and keep your projects.

£6 ticket: Means you can work on all the activities and projects but you can’t take any projects with battery packs, batteries or motors away with you at the end of the session.

All students should be accompanied by an adult with a ratio of one adult to every two children. Adult tickets are free, but you MUST have a adult ticket for an adult to attend. This session is for children aged 5-12.

Please note that there will be no provision for children under 5.
