Junk Instruments: Newham Half Term

17th February 2021, 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Free
You’re invited to Junk Instruments!

About this event

Whilst music festivals might be on hold, that doesn’t mean live music has to be! Bring music to your home and join the iOi’s junk orchestra. Together we’ll discover how to make amazing and unusual sounds, and host you’re very own live performance. This is an activity for all the family to get involved, whether you’re figuring out how loud your voice can be or are a veteran bass player, you can get involved.

This session is for children, young people and families living in Newham

What will happen in this session?

In this session, we will experiment with different ways of making sounds and music together using our voices, bodies and objects from around the house.

Session Structure

  1. Warm up: We’ll share some musical inspiration using everyday object.
  2. Sound jam using our voices: How can we make noises using our voices and bodies?
  3. Creating your own junk instruments using everyday objects
  4. Showcase your creations in our junk orchestra. We will also share some ways you can continue developing your musical exploration.

You will need:

  • A large piece of paper or cardboard
  • Things from your house that you think could make a good noise (e.g rubber bands, empty water bottles, pots and pans, lentils)

When is the session?

This session is from 10:00 – 11:30 on Wednesday 17th February. There will be up to 75 participants at each session. We’re happy for you to drop in and out of when you can!

How much does the session cost?

This is a funded programme making it free to participate however you must be living in Newham.
