The Imagination Lab is now open!
On 9 February, we launched the Imagination Lab and were pleased to be joined by many of our trustees, patrons, advisers, partners and supporters, as well as key representatives from the commercial, property development, educational and cultural sectors. It was a vibrant evening as we both showcased the Imagination Lab and laid out our ambitions to create the Institute of Imagination Campus. The Imagination Lab is the next step of our journey to the iOi Campus and we are very excited about how we will work with schools and families and a broad range of innovative partners in the new space. We are pleased to say that our first programme ‘lab learn – recode’ for schools has already sold out and our first family focused event ‘lab live – recode’ which took place on 11 February was also sold out. Tickets for our more intimate family focused ‘lab life – recode’ events are available here.
We were delighted that one of our patrons Sir Ken Robinson was able to record this short film setting our work at the Institute of Imagination in the wider context, outlining what imagination is and why it is so crucial for today’s young people.
We are also very pleased to have the continuing support of the Culture team at the Greater London Authority and Jacqueline Rose, Head of Culture spoke at the launch on behalf of the GLA about how the Institute of Imagination is well positioned to help deliver a number of their key priorities, and how we will fit into London’s cultural and creative fabric.
“I’m delighted to support the Institute of Imagination’s ambitious plans to create a world-class destination with children at its heart. The capital is a global hub of creativity, and it’s only right that we look to foster the creative minds of tomorrow, encouraging youngsters to think big and to let their imaginations run riot!
“Join me in supporting this one-of-a-kind destination, which will be open to all children and families across the city and beyond.”
Justine Simons, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries
Earlier in the day, children from Ferry Lane Primary School in Tottenham, opened up our schools ‘lab learn – recode’ programme at the Imagination Lab and made this welcome film for visitors.
We look forward to establishing the Imagination Lab and the future Campus as a primary destination for children, families and schools to explore imagination.
