Lab Live: Cardboard Challenge

28th October 2017, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Cardboard Challenge

You’re invited to… Lab Live: Cardboard Challenge!

Book now

To celebrate the Global Cardboard Challenge 2017, we will be hosting a day of Lab Live family workshops at the Imagination Lab. Cardboard plays a big part in our everyday lives and is a material that can be found in every household. But how can we reimagine and tinker with it?

To kickstart the tinkering, we will be taking over a 12,000 sq ft space totally dedicated to playing with and exploring cardboard. We’ll be creating everything from jewellery, large scale sculptures, transportation devices, and engineering works, to furniture, stacking constructions, arcades and giant marble runs.

Join us at our cardboard party to get involved in a host of activities:

  • Pumpkin carving in our cardboard den
  • Creating glow-in-the-dark creatures with battery packs
  • Designing animal masks with OKIDO
  • Exploring virtual reality with cardboard headsets
  • Creating your own stop frame animation with cardboard pieces
  • Building tube owls with DK Books

Plan your day using this map.

We can’t wait to see what you’ll imagine and build with us! Search for #cardboardchallenge on Twitter and Instagram for ideas and inspiration of what to create on the day.

Why is cardboard so important to imagination?

Playing with cardboard inspires children to learn by using simple materials to build the things they imagine. It is a brilliant activity that not only inspires creativity, but also encourages a host of the skills we champion, including perseverance, problem solving, collaboration and resourcefulness. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!

When is Lab Live: Cardboard Challenge?

Lab Live: Cardboard Challenge takes place on Saturday 28 October, from 10am – 4pm.

Who is Lab Live: Cardboard Challenge for and how much does it cost?

This event is ideal for children aged between 2-13 years old. Tickets cost £8 for this all day event. Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult.

What is the Global Cardboard Challenge?

The Global Cardboard Challenge (GCC) is an annual event and movement inspired by the viral video ‘Caine’s Arcade’, which told the incredible story of a boy in LA who built his own arcade entirely from cardboard.

Since 2012 the GCC has had 750,000 participants from over 77 countries and is a global celebration of creativity and imagination.
