Inclusive Virtual Imagination Hub Programme: Experimenting with Aerodynamics

July 4, 9:30 am - 11:00 am

You’re invited to…. Inclusive Virtual Imagination Hub: Playing with Aerodynamics

About this Event

Join us at the Inclusive Virtual Imagination Hub, where we’ll be exploring and playing with aerodynamics.

Who is this for?

This is for children and young people aged 5-18 years old that have special educational needs, profound or multiple learning disabilities, autism and/or who are neurodivergent. You must be living in or go to school within Brent, Barnet or Harrow to be eligible for a place in this session.

What will the session include?

In this session we’ll be experimenting with wind tunnels. Using a hairdryer and other household objects, children will be encouraged to create different forms and structures to test basic physic concepts. Children will learn how to measure the speed of flights, how things twist and spin in the air and why some things hover and float and then fly upwards.

Session Structure

  • Introduction: What is a wind tunnel?
  • Step-by-step instructions to making your own stable wind tunnel out of a hairdryer
  • Testing time: Participants will test out different objects that can hover or float, fly up high, spin or twist. They will also be encouraged to think about different elements of their design, and ask questions as to how their object can be improved.
  • Hacking: How can you hack your wind tunnel?
