RE:CODE London

June 11, 8:00 am - June 13, 5:00 pm

LAUNCH OF RE:CODE LONDON Hundreds of young Londoners put their coding skills to the test today at the Imagination Lab, run by the Institute of Imagination, where they designed and coded a LEGO® prototype robot, which can help remove rubbish from the River Thames. The Deputy Mayor for Education and Childcare, Joanne McCartney, saw the young coders in action as she joined the LEGO Group and the Institute of Imagination to launch RE:CODE London, a new scheme which provides schoolchildren with a coding and robotics-based challenge to encourage them to think critically and problem solve around a real-world, London issue. Joanne McCartney also announced the Mayor’s raft of new schemes to inspire the next generation of young scientists, engineers and coders in London, including the launch of the Mayor’s London Scientist scheme.

RE:CODE London gives young Londoners aged 9-11 the chance to take on a real-world coding challenge.  RE:CODE London is run by the Mayor of London, the LEGO® Group and Institute of Imagination.

There are 7 RE:CODE London events in the 2019 school year, with sessions for mainstream, SEND and Home Education groups. The aim is to strengthen coding and creative problem-solving skills in year 5 and 6 students.
