You’re invited to…Code Green at the Winter Lights Festival
Put your coding skills to the test with our interactive light installation with a green twist, at Canary Wharf’s Winter Lights Festival. We’ll be popping up in the Jubilee Place Mall on weekends during the festival, with an activity inspired by the festival’s theme of sustainability, recycling and the environment.
What can I expect at Code Green?
Using BBC micro:bit, take on the challenge and turn the world green by making environmental decisions, in a collaborative coding game. The more answers you get right, the more LEDs turn green across the map. You can pick up coding skills, challenge your environmental knowledge and experiment with your own code to add questions and lights to the game for the next budding coder to respond to.
What is the Winter Lights Festival?
Winter Lights is in its fifth year and brings together some of the most imaginative and exciting international artists working with light art today. The festival draws upon state-of-the-art light technology to deliver spectacular artworks, installations and experiences around Canary Wharf – many of them interactive or responsive. This year sustainability, recycling and the environment is a theme running through the works. Many of the pieces have been created by reusing materials and others respond to themes like waste and climate change. There’s over 20 installations to experience once it gets dark! The festival runs from 15-26 January and we’ll be there at weekends with our light-based coding activity. Find out more about the Winter Lights Festival and download the map of artworks on the Canary Wharf website.
When is Code Green?
We will be in the Jubilee Place Mall on Saturday 19, Sunday 20 and Saturday 26 January between 10:00am – 22:00pm on Saturdays and 12:00-22:00pm on Sunday. The activity runs continuously as a drop-in activity, with simple challenges if you only have a short amount of time, or more complex challenges if you have longer to spend with us.
Where is Code Green?
The activity will be in the Jubilee Place Mall in Canary Wharf, an underground shopping mall on the south side of Canary Wharf, which you can access directly from the Canary Wharf underground station. We will be situated centrally in the shopping centre, between Itsu and Starbucks.
Canary Wharf Underground Station is accessed by the Jubilee line and the DLR.
Who is Code Green for and how much does it cost?
The activity is suitable for all ages, adults and children alike, and no prior coding knowledge needed. The activity is free.
