book now

For Lab Life: Coding Weekend, we will be hosting a weekend of family workshops in our Imagination Lab. These workshops will give young children the opportunity to step into the world of coding through a number of imaginative routes.

With coding being the modern literacy, we will be celebrating the development, creative application, innovation and invention that digital literacy brings.

These Coding Weekend workshops will be exploring topics such as:

  • Art and code
  • Storytelling and code
  • Video games
  • Websites
  • Apps
  • Robotics and more!

We’ll be joined by a range of partners who specialise in making coding creative for children, including Maker Club, Everyone Can Programme, YoSteam, and Ozobots.

Why learn to code?

This event is being held as part of Europe Code Week, 7 – 22 October 2017. Europe Code Week is a grassroots initiative that helps to bring coding to people across the world in a fun and engaging way. During Europe Code Week 2016, there were 23,043 coding events held across 50 countries. We’re pleased to be contributing towards Europe Code Week 2017 and helping to prove that coding is for everyone. As well as joining our event, you are welcome to run your own event and spread the word about Code Week. Learn more about Code Week and how you can get involved.

As the organisers of Europe Code Week say: “Today we live in a world that has been affected by rapid advances in technology. The way we work, communicate, shop and think has changed dramatically. In order to cope with these rapid changes and to make sense of the world around us, we need to not only develop our understanding of how technology works, but also develop skills and capabilities, that will help us to adapt to living in this new era. Learning to code helps us to make sense of how things work, explore ideas and make things, for both work and play. What’s more it helps us to unleash our creativity and work collaboratively with wonderful people both near us and all over the world.”
