Lab Learn: Mark Making and Dance (Lambeth Community Programme)

3rd July 2018, 10:00 am - 4th July 2018, 2:00 pm

lab learn movement landscape

You’re invited to Lab Learn: Mark Making and Dance with Siobhan Davies Dance company (Lambeth Community Programme)

These workshops will provide a fun, imaginative and sensorial experience of cause and effect. We will look at the ways in which cause and effect play out in movement and the multiplicity of ways in which the moving body is affected in its qualities through cause and effect.

This might include testing the laws of cause and effect on ‘hexabug’ and drawing bots as participants can manipulate the figures and bots and can map out journeys using figures for mark-making onto large strips of paper, potentially creating maps for movement exploration and experiential tasks. The activities will encourage participants to engage with the imagination involved in cause and effect using collaborative, embodied exploration.

The participants will have the opportunity to improvise with this theme through movement and play. The SDD arts practitioner will guide this process and will provide an integration of props to elicit creative response in relation to the theme. There will be a sharing/ appreciation feature within the session where the participants get to perform an aspect of their process to the rest of the group.

The workshop will be delivered using Siobhan Davies Dance’s methodology; supporting the children and their families to create and structure movement that communicates their ideas following an immersive experience, observing, questioning, tinkering and discussing. There are no taught steps. Questions will be discussed and answered through physical exploration.
