You’re invited to…Lab Life: Making Movement (The Firebird Experience)
Join us for an interactive storytelling performance celebrating The Firebird Lab – the culmination of BitterSuite’s 4 month Cultural Residency at the Imagination Lab. Part workshop, part performance, come and help us finish The Firebird experience!
What can I expect at…Lab Life: Making Movement?
At this Lab Life you are invited to take part in an imaginative storytelling and performance session, where as a family you’ll create imaginary worlds inspired by Stravinsky’s classical music masterpiece ‘The Firebird’. The event will finish with a 20 minute performance called ‘Iow The Flowing Bird’ , which you’ll be part of.
‘Iow The Following Bird’ has been created by the ideas and stories of over 800 young people from across London, but it’s not finished yet and we don’t know how it ends! We need your help to finish the story and to join in the final performance.
With our young collaborators over the past for months we have created all kinds of wonder and experiences for this finale performance, including jewelled lions, fire phoenix, Tom and Jerry chases, unicorns, battles and more…what ideas will you add?
We invite you into our delightful, old, magical forest of imagination. Inside you can explore and uncover the secrets of the music, listen to stories conjured by the voices of young people and see drawn landscapes of imaginative worlds.
The workshop and performance will be led by BitterSuite’s artistic director and classical composer Stephanie Singer, dancer and movement facilitator Linzy Na Nakorn and will include a soundscape edited by sound artist Jazlyn Pinckney.

What is the Cultural Residency?
Each year, the Institute of Imagination runs a cultural residency and this year’s theme is empathy. BitterSuite’s project, The Firebird Lab, is this year’s residency and responds to the theme by exploring Stravinsky’s classical music piece The Firebird through multi-sensory workshops. The project aims to boost the ability to understand the feelings of others, by sharing and exploring different responses to the same musical stimulus. The residency has taken place between April to July 2019 at the Imagination Lab.
The Cultural Residency is kindly supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Arts Council England and the D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust.
