Over the past two years, Lambeth Sparks have been experimenting and tinkering with animation, learning how to use skills such as storytelling and coding. For this six-week programme, children and young people in Loughborough will use their digital literacy skills to create their own animations. Every week, we will be looking at how different industries use animation in their work – from gaming to advertising. Children will tinker with digital making platforms to create and play with their own animation creations whilst developing an understanding of the careers that involve digital thinking, storytelling, arts and engineering. The aim is for children and young people to understand and explore how digital skills link to real life careers. This is a fully booked programme.
Animating Food
Children will then tinker and explore different animation techniques, e.g. Smash, move, peel, boil, using food or drink. They will be challenged to explore they can market and advertise products.
Group A: Thursday 22nd April, 16:15 – 18:15
Group B: Thursday 29th April, 16:15 – 18:15
Programme Structure
Each session will be repeated as we are splitting our programme into two groups to keep everyone safe. Each group will have up to 15 participants
Parent Animation Training (Online): 21st April
This is a taster workshop which will be light, fun, explorative and no experience of technology or using this Stop Motion application prior to this session is required.
Animating Food: 22nd April & 29th April
Children will then tinker and explore with different animation techniques e.g. Smash, move, peel, boil using food or drink to explore they can market and advertise products.
Animating for Film with Aardman: 6th & 13th May
We will be using our characters and backgrounds that we created last time to start making our animations. For inspiration we will have a look at how Aardman have created their animations.
Animating with MakeCode Arcade: 20th & 27th May
Children will be using MakeCode Arcade to create and code their own games. We will be designing our own characters and backgrounds. As well as adding effects, timers, ways to collect points and obstacles.
Animation Challenge: 1st June AM & PM
The Lambeth sparks participants have been explored numerous ways to animate through different industries. For week six we will pose a challenge based on what they want to do when they grow up! Children will animate their own films using the skills they have learnt from the previous sessions.
Showcase: 3rd June AM & PM
iOi will create a showreel of all the Lambeth Sparks children films, adverts and games that they have created throughout the last 6 weeks to celebrate their achievements. We will then see and share all the ‘Animation Projects’ that they have been towards in the last week. They will submit these via a telegram app that will allow all of the iOi community see and share what they have completed.
