Nostalgia: Tinkering with Rain Sticks

Using upcycled materials, this creative workshop invites audiences to make and experiment at different scales, to extend and customise the sounds of the installation by creating individual take-home rain sticks. It’s inspired by Nostalgia, a new interactive installation in the Royal Docks.

Who is this for?

For families in Newham, with children and young people aged 5-12. When signing up, please note that you will make one rainstick per sign up. If you would like to book in another child, then please sign up twice.

When is the workshop?

We will be running an hour long workshop at 12:00pm. 2:00pm and 3:30pm. All the workshops will be the same, so you only need to turn up once!

This workshop is funded by the Lerak Foundation the Royal Docks team, so it’s free for families.

What is Nostaliga?

Nostalgia is an immersive interactive installation from Guatemala, designed by Artist María Adela Díaz in collaboration with Composer and Musician Joaquin Orellana. It features a handmade sound sculpture of 60 giant undulating rainsticks that can be activated by visitors to create sounds of water and movement. Following its successful residency at the London Design Biennale in June, Nostalgia is now coming to the Royal Docks for families across Newham to interact with and enjoy. We have devised two new family workshops around the themes of sound, water and movement. We invite you to come and reimagine sounds of water in the Royal Docks.
