You are invited to…Tinkering Club: Tinkering With Flight
This event is now fully booked.
Join us for an extra-special Tinkering Club to explore the topics of electrification and flight, in partnership with Rolls-Royce. There will be two activity stations to spark the imaginations of young inventors.
Activity Station One:
What could become possible – now and in the future – with the power of electrification? Explore invention, prototyping, making and power to find out. For Tinkering Club: Tinkering With Flight, we’re transforming our Imagination Lab into an immersive open test space, with three zones that encourage you to think, engineer, build, test and evaluate.
The Idea Zone
The Idea Zone is set up to capture your ideas about the future of flight, using futuristic videos, images and models for inspiration. We’ll be using invention sheets to capture ideas through sketches and written descriptions, as well as prototyping ideas with quick modelling and basic materials. The wind tube at the Imagination Lab will allow families to explore air movement with a variety of everyday objects.
The Make Zone
The Make Zone will invite you to explore the world of flight by creating vehicles that fly. Participants will have the opportunity to make and code a drone to explore vertical take-off, as well as design a walkalong glider.
The Power Zone
The Power Zone will explore how flight can be electrified to demonstrate the importance of electrification across our lives. Families can explore the basics around electricity, such as how it is produced and stored. From the power drawn from a potato to creating a circuit using Makey Makey, the zone will provide an interactive environment for electrical creation and electrical storage.
Activity Station Two:
We will be experimenting with elasticity, paper, wheels, helium, motors and coding Micro:bits to explore ways to make catapult helicopters, reaction games, flying planes, rockets or even a flying contraption from your own imagination. You’ll be able to play with the speed of flight and acrobatics to think about these key questions:
Please note, if you make an invention with a motor and battery pack, there will be a small charge of £3 to cover the cost if you would like to take it home.
When is Tinkering Club: Tinkering With Flight?
This event is on Saturday 17th November and runs between 10am-1pm. Please arrive at the start of your session to get the most from these activities.
Who is Tinkering Club: Tinkering With Flight for and how much does it cost?
This session is for Lambeth residents only, as part of our lambeth community programme. The sessions are suitable for children aged 6-14 years old. 12-14 year olds may attend independently and children under 12 should be accompanied by a parent or carer. Tickets for this event are free.
